First let me show you how to see if you’re clearly banned by Google. Often times people think they’ve been banned, when in reality they’ve just dropped in ranking and can’t find their website.

There are a couple of things you can do.

1.) Check Google’s search results.

2.) View the Google toolbar.

Check Google’s search results.

Go to Google and enter your entire URL into Google’s search box. In this example we’ll use a made up name. (www.jfjsjisls.com). Let’s say this website was in Google’s index at one time. On a side note, I tried www.applelounge.com was already taken. I guess some people just don’t have enough time on their hands

Anyway, we’ll go to Google and enter our entire URL and click “search” Http://www.jkhljkhkjh.com

Notice that Google says there is no information available for this URL? This means that the URL is no longer in Google’s database.

If you enter a brand new website into Google, you’ll always get this message until the website has been indexed. But, in this case, our website has been banned by Google for some reason. Another way you can quickly see if your website has been banned is by:

Viewing the Google Toolbar.

Download the Google Toolbar. Once it’s installed, simply visit your website. If the Google toolbar is completely gray, this means you have been banned by Google.

Banned

Note: Most SEOs call this “gray barred”.

Note Banned

I don’t know about you, but I get extremely excited when I see my new keywords at the top of Google for the very first time. Making big changes in ranking is primarily done by what is called offpage optimization.

Earlier I mentioned there were two types of search engine optimization.
1.Onpage Optimization
2.Offpage Optimization

We’ve gone over onpage optimization, so let’s move on to offpage optimization which is what really makes a HUGE difference in your site’s ranking. Properly planned offpage optimization will make the difference between your website ranking #900, and ranking #1 on Google!
So, what is offpage optimization anyway? Offpage optimization basically consists of all of the ranking factors that are NOT located on your webpage, that the search engines look at when ranking a website.

These include:

1.Which websites link to you
2.The number of websites linking to you
3.The Google of the website linking to you
4.The page title of the website linking to you
5.The anchor text used in the link linking to you
6.The number and type of links linking to the website that’s linking to you.
7.The number of outbound links on the website that is linking to you
8.The total number of links on the website that is linking to you
9.Whether or not the websites linking to you are deemed by Google as an authority website.
10.The IP Address of the websites linking to you.

In order to optimize our original website for the keyword ” search engine optimization“, we need toanalyze the offpage optimization techniques of the top 10 ranked websites for our keyword.

Again, these things include:
1.Which websites link to them
2.The number of websites linking to them
3.The Google of the website linking to them
4.The page title of the website linking to them
5.The anchor text used in the link linking to them
6.The number and type of links linking to the website that’s linking to them
7.The number of outbound links on the website that is linking to them
8.The total number of links on the website that is linking to them
9.Whether or not the websites linking to them are deemed by Google as an authority website
10.The IP Address of the websites linking to them.

There are lots of reasons websites tank. Typical non-performance issues include poor layout, disastrous design, ho-hum content, missing meta data and inbound links, confusing navigation, buried info (too many clicks required to find what the browser is looking for), Las Vegas theatrics (think way too much Flash), etc.

The good news? There are LOTS of entrepreneurs who have winning websites churning serious sales, and you can too! The starting point is to understand that your website must be all about 2 things: getting found by more prospects and converting more of those inbound leads into customers. These five easy fixes will help transform your website metrics (and grow your sales)…

Get Organized

Great websites are intuitive. They reflect serious back-end homework and have been strategically developed to engage specific target audiences. If you want your website to work as it should, anticipate what your prospects and customers are looking for at the get-go.

Be Clear

Forget fancy jargon and get to the point quickly, using compelling, professionally-written, keyword-enriched text. Remember your competitors are literally a click away, so strong keyword-rich headlines and terrific content will help to convert browsers into buyers. This applies to everything the casual visitor sees when landing on your URL’s, as well as the back-end stuff they don’t. Your meta data, which is read and ranked by the Search Engine optimization spiders (titles, descriptions, keywords and alt tags) should be crystal clear and unique to each page.

Ask for Business

This may seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many websites get a “zero” on this one! No matter how obvious you think you might be, your site will fail Marketing 101 if you don’t have multiple “asks” or calls to action. Words like” call now”, “get more info today”, or “contact us for a free quote” are all still very effective interaction motivators.

Give Something Away

Successful Internet marketers couple many of the “asks” with a promise to deliver a valuable freebie (an e-book, white paper, podcast, etc.) Winning websites development also make it easier to convert visitors into solid leads, using multiple, short data collection forms on different pages (not just on your Contact Us page) as well as hyperlinked email boxes with specific client-focused Subject lines. Again the concept here is to make it easier for your prospects to get what they want, when they want it. By testing and assessing the results of a variety of different methods, mediums, and offers, you’ll define what produces the best results.

Brag Alot

Forget about being coy. Make your site a cash cow with the strategic use of glowing testimonials – not only on a specific “Success Stories” page, but liberally sprinkled around your entire site. Make sure each testimonial highlights specific services/products you want to sell more of, along with engaging copy that details the core benefits that your delighted client got as a result of doing business with you. Showcase different industries and diverse outcomes. Get creative and post pictures of your smiling clients, and use podcasts or videos as much as you can. People respond better to a combination of visuals, audio and tape.

By adopting these simple fixes, you are on your way to making your website the winning sales engine it should be.

You may or may not have heard people claim they can get listed in Google in only 24 hours. It seems that nearly 100% of the people you run across in forums act like in order to get indexed by Google in 24 hours is some miracle feat that can only be accomplished by doing some “top secret” marketing tactic or advanced search engine optimization strategy.

Well, the truth of the matter is…
Getting listed in Google in under a day is quite easy!

First, let’s define what “getting indexed by Google” means…
Let’s say that you create a brand new website. For our purposes, we’ll call it
www.applelounge.com .If we go to Google and enter: www.applelounge.com into the search box, we’ll see that no results are returned. See below:

The reason no results appear is because our website is new and it’s not “in Google’s index” yet. If you’re not in their index, your site can’t be ranked by them because they don’t know your
site exists…

So, in order to rank in Google, you must first get into their index. Once your website is in there index and you do a search like we did above, you’ll see the screen below:

Notice your website title, description, and URL now appear. This website has been indexed by Google.

Ok, now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s talk about what NOT to do when trying to get indexed by Google. The following URL might look familiar to you:

http://www.google.com/addurl.html

This is Google’s actual website submission form. They state that you can use this form to submit your website to their index of websites and it can take up to 6 weeks for your website to be placed into their index. I don’t know about you, but 4 weeks is a heck of a long time to just wait for your website to be placed in their index rotation, let alone get a top ranking!

You should NEVER use this form, or any other of the top search engine’s submission forms for that matter. These search engines include Yahoo, MSN, Altavista, and Alltheweb. So, how do you get your website indexed within 24 hours?

Let’s stick with our search engine optimization website for now, and I will take you through the steps you’ll need to do to get indexed by Google in under 24 hours, guaranteed.

Go to Google and enter the broadest keyword you can think of that’s related toyour website. In our example, it will be “search engine optimization”. Once you’ve done this, you’ll see a list of Google results.

Browse through each website and pay particular attention to the Google Page Rank of the website.

So, as you’re looking at these top ranked websites for the search term “search engine optimization“, you should try to find websites with a Page Rank of 5 or higher.

Once you’ve found several websites like this, you should check and see whether or not they have links pages. Usually you’ll see links from their index page that say (resources, links, related sites, etc.) Now, you need to search their website for their contact information or information on getting a link from one of their high Page Rank webpages.

Once you find their contact information you should send them an email asking if they will link to your website in return for you linking back to their website. If you do this correctly and professionally, they will respond and will place a link on their website to yours.

If you can manage to get 1 PR5 website to link to your website, you will be indexed by Google in under 3 days. If you can get 1 PR6 website to link to you, then you will be in Google’s index in under 24 hours!

Sometimes persuading the higher page rank websites is pretty tough, especially if your
website is brand new, but there’s another option you can pursue and that is Purchasing links from high Page Rank websites. The easiest and fastest way to do this is to
visit 1 of the many link purchasing websites.

Here are a few of the better ones .

Many times you can purchase 1 PR7 link for a 1 month time period for, say, $150. After the month is up, there is no need to renew because you are already in Google’s index! So, basically by paying a 1 time fee of $150 you can be indexed by Google within 24 hours, with no work on your part.

If you already own 1 PR5 or 6 website, then place a link on the index page of that PR5 or 6 website and point it to your new website.

Leave the link there for 1-3 days and you’ll quickly see your new website in Google’s index!

Once you’re in the index, you can remove the link from your higher Page Rank website.
It’s as easy as that… So, you can see that getting indexed quickly by Google is VERY easy and doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

Why And How You Should Give Outbound Links Google Loves Links: As we already know, links make the (Internet) world go round. Without links, the Internet doesn’t make much sense. Links are also the cornerstone of Google’s PageRank algorithm. So, it would stand to reason that since links are so important to Google, it would encourage people to create links (and conversely, discourage websites from not having any links out at all). The argument is that Google incents behavior that helps it deliver better results to its users. Nothing is more important than links between related websites to make this happen.

Training Google Via Links: In addition to helping Google out by powering it’s PageRank algorithm, links are also a great “signal” for you to send to Google as to what topics your site is related to. As you might suspect, if you link out to an interesting article or two on a key topic of interest to your business, Google uses this as one more way to “figure out” what your site is about. So, in addition to whatever content you have on your page, the content you link out to is an important factor in training Google so it can establish context.
Linking The Right Way: When providing links out to other sites, there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it. Let’s first take a look at the wrong (but unfortunately very common) way that people link.

Wrong Way:

See what we did there. The word “here” is what is known as the “anchor text” for the link. It is critically important to the search engines when they look at links. By just making the word “here” a hyperlink, we’re giving Google very little help in terms of hints as to what we think the page we’re linking to is about. Instead, here is a muchbetter (and right) way to do this:

Right way:

The second way is much better than the first for multiple reasons. First, the link is easier for readers to click on (and know that it’s a link). But, more important is the fact that we now have the anchor text as “improve your organic search results on Google”. When the search engine spiders “see” this link, they factor in the anchor text when determining what the target page is about. The reason that the anchor text is important (vs. the page title that the original article itself has) is that generally when you are linking to external (third-party) sites, you control the anchor text. As such, this gives Google an external point of validation around the site content of the external site. Giving the site a link is a “vote” for that site – and the anchor text you use is a “contextual vote” that helps Google reaffirm the theme of that website.

In summary, making sure that you provide links out to related websites to yours not only helps others by helping them improve their search rankings, it will help with your own search engine optimization efforts as well. And, as long as you’re going to go to the trouble of linking out, take an extra minute and make sure you do it the right way by using the right anchor text for the link. The sites that you link to will be appreciative and it helps the right circulation of positive search engine karma.

1. Goal: More visitors and leads.

The reason you are redesigning your website is to impact your business, not because you are bored with the design or because your CEO wants it to be blue not red. So, focus on the results you want. More visitors, leads and customers. Every decision you make should be focused on improving those goals. Keeping that in mind, you might spend a bit less time worrying about the exact shade of reddish-orange on the callout background, and more time worrying about things that will improve your marketing results.

2. Avoid pitfalls. Inventory your assets, then protect them.

There are countless ways a website redesign can actually negatively impact your results. In fact, more often than not, website redesigns do have a negative impact on marketing results. Your existing website has a lot of assets that you have built up. These assets help your prospects find your website and help you turn them into leads and customers. You need to find out what those assets are (great content, keywords you rank for, inbound links to individual pages, conversion tools) and protect them carefully during the redesign. PS – Many “web design experts” get this stuff wrong. They are design experts not Internet marketing experts.

3. Spend resources on remarkable content that attracts and converts. Not unique design.

There is a great article from Seth Godin about this. He says “I’m going to go out on a limb and beg you not to create an original design. There are more than a billion pages on the web. Surely there’s one that you can start with? …Your car isn’t unique, and your house might not be either.” Most people care about the content more than the design. The design should be good, but that does not mean unique and expensive.

4. Create an ongoing content building strategy.

If you have more content, on average you will have more website visitors and grow your business faster. A 100-page website will beat a 10 page website 90% of the time. And a 500-page website is even better. And if some of those web pages were written recently, that’s even better. So, build a strategy to continue to add more and more content to your website over time. Hint: Blogging makes creating content easy.
5. Enable conversion experiments.

The key to driving your conversion rate and the number of leads you get from your website over time is to constantly improve the effectiveness of your conversion tools – this usually means your landing pages. If you build a completely static website and have to go to a consultant or IT person each and every time you want to set up a new landing page or to change an existing page, you might be limiting your ability to quickly experiment and improve. I am a believer that some sort of system that lets you edit content and build landing pages without having to know coding is a good idea.

6. Include a blog, RSS, landing pages, SEO.

Any website built today should include these basics. They are not expensive, and they work. A blog is a great way to create content on an ongoing basis, and to start to converse with your customers and prospects. RSS allows some content from your website to be automatically pushed out to other websites and people, increasing the reach of your content. Landing pages are critical to actually get value out of your traffic. And SEO is not hard, and it really works.

7. Metrics: Visitors and leads.

We have come full circle. If the goal was to increase visitors and conversions, then that is the metric we should track. What does this mean? It means if the CEO hates the new design, tell her to go pound sand and show her your improved lead conversion metrics. If your creative director says he loves the new design, ask him to explain why you are now getting fewer leads and why you should not change the website back to the old one.

1) Find keywords. Pick a list of words relevant to your business. Think about which words are most likely to get people to do what you want them to do (convert into leads) and focus on those words. Then pick one word (or phrase) to use on one page of your site.

2) Put keywords in Page Title. The Page Title is one of the most important things that Google and other search engines evaluate to determine what is on a web page. Put your keyword or phrase in the title, keep it short.

3) Put keywords in Page URL. Google and other search engines also use the text of the URL of the page to determine the content of the web page. You should use your keyword or phrase in the URL of the web page – either the folder/directory structure or the HTML file / page name itself.

4) Put keywords in Meta Data. While the page metadata (Page Description and Keywords) are not nearly as important as they used to be, they still count. Take advantage of them by putting your keyword or phrase there. The description should be readable by a person and make sense and the keyword metadata should focus on your keyword or phrase – do not make it long, less is more.

5) Put keywords in your H1 text. The H1 text is usually the title of an article or some larger bold text at the top of your page. Google and the smaller search engines can see this and they put extra importance on the words in the H1 text. Make sure your keyword or phrase is there.

6) Use keywords in the page content. Putting the keyword in your page content also signals to search engines that the page is actually about the keyword and should show up in search results. I have heard from “experts” that you should use your keyword anywhere from 4-6 times to 10-12 times. My advice is to just write naturally.

7) Monitor your rank. Give the search engines some time to do their thing (couple days) and then keep checking your rank to see what happened and track your progress

I hope this Internet marketing tips will help you maximize your website traffic.
